The State of Video Marketing [SURVEY RESULTS]

I recently conducted a survey to get a feel for what’s going on in Online Videoland.  The results may surprise you!  I’m not claiming that it’s the most scientific survey ever, but we definitely got a large enough sample for the results to be very telling…

The first question was pretty straightforward.  We simply asked “Have you started using online video in your marketing mix?”  61% stated that they have started using video, while 39% responded they have not.

Next, we asked if you planned to use online video in your marketing mix in the next 3 – 6 months.  The response was more dramatic, with a whopping 91% of respondents replying a resounding “yes.” Only 1% said no, while 8% replied “not sure.”

We then asked those who have already started using video what their biggest challenge has been so far.

The majority, 45%, replied that editing video is the biggest challenge faced.  “Making time to do it” seems to be a problem for 42%.  “Figuring out what to say or do” is a challenge for 26%, and “uploading/distributing/sharing your video” is a stumbling block for 19%.  Only about 13% responded that “getting your video recorded” was your biggest challenge.

For those who have NOT started using video yet, here’s what’s holding you back:  Again, simply “finding the time to do it,” is the biggest reason with 38.5% of the vote.  “Learning how to do it” is an issue for 25% of the respondents; while 15% cited “fear of equipment or technology” as an excuse for not getting started.  Only 11.5% said that “fear of being on camera” is keeping them from doing video.

What can we glean from these survey results?  Clearly, the vast majority of entrepreneurs intend to begin using video marketing if they haven’t already started.  As with most new projects, making the time to do it is the biggest challenge.  (Ironically, it usually doesn’t take nearly as long as most people perceive!)

One thing is for sure: Video marketing is well worth the time and effort it takes to get started.   There’s simply no better way to promote and build your business.  Videos can increase your Google ranking by a factor of 50; and we now know that websites with video sell up to 45% more.  And we’ve all heard the impressive stats about the power and reach of YouTube, now the fourth most trafficked site on the Internet, and the world’s second most popular search engine.

So let’s get with it and get those videos out there!  Good news for those who need helpSoon I’ll be putting together a small mastermind and accountability group  to make sure you get it done!  You’ll get plenty of support, along with a special “Video Creation Accountability Day,” to tackle your video!

This will be a small, invitation-only Video Mastermind, so if you’re interested, please email me as soon as possible at lou.bortone@gmail.com What are you waiting for?

Thanks Lou. It’s always helpful to get a feel for what others ‘in the same boat’ are doing.

What I would like to know concerning the “Finding the time to do it” response is this…

How much time (when you are online) do you spend doing remedial tasks like checking emails or spending half the evening on social networking sites.

This biggest problem I’ve seen over the years is not so much “finding the time”, but making the time. I would reveal the solution to this problem, but I don’t want to blow the cover on my next product release. LOL.

Thanks for revealing this info, Lou… Great stuff!

Hi Lou, Thanks for taking this survey and for sharing the results. They don’t surprise me as I am sure they didn’t surprise you. I like that “11.5% said that “fear of being on camera” is keeping them from doing video.” as that is one of my targets :) AND I also fall into that category!

Have a very Happy New Year,
    Julie
